Honoring Our Heroes
Her Second Shift
One of our earliest volunteers is Alina, a forensic medical expert in Lviv. Each day she performs the heartbreaking task of identifying the remains of fallen soldiers and civilians so families can finally know the fate of their loved ones. Yet after this grueling work, Alina comes home to another calling: rescuing the animals left behind when families fled the bombings. Alina now cares for nearly thirty injured or traumatized cats and dogs, treating wounds, giving medicine, and offering them safety in her own home.
Your support helps her continue this heavy, essential work, giving a second chance to the most vulnerable creatures of war.
Born Into a Fight
Sashko is the son of two heroes who met on the front lines. His mother, a military medic called “Mary,” and his father, a soldier known as “Stalker,” served together, fell in love, and welcomed Sashko into the world. Stalker was mortally wounded and died in Mary’s arms as she fought to save him. Sashko was very young and still doesn’t understand why his dad never came home. Mary carries this loss as she raises him alone while preparing to return to active service. We support her in this double burden.
With your help, we bring Sashko—and other children of war—moments of joy, especially during the holidays, so they know they are seen and cared for.
The Protector of Life
When the enemy attacked her native city of Kharkiv — miles from the border — Yuliya, a former judge with a doctorate in law, tried to enlist but was turned away. Refusing to stand aside, she found her own path into the Armed Forces and trained herself to become a combat medic. Today, she is one of the few medics still serving in Pokrovsk, a city under siege with heavy street-to-street fighting. She provides lifesaving care under constant fire, relying on determination and courage to keep her fellow soldiers alive.
We are honored to support Yuliya and other combat medics, giving them what they need to protect their soldiers and save lives when every moment counts.
Kindness in Action
Andrii “Dobro” — whose call sign means “Kindness” — ran fitness and riding clubs in Kyiv before the war. To protect his city, he joined the Territorial Defence and, after the enemy was driven back, turned to building lifesaving equipment for the front. His team repurposes EV batteries to make evacuation units and mobile stretchers—vital as drones have made standard vehicles unsafe. With access across the front, he delivers this equipment himself, often under real danger, and returns to refine each design.
We are proud to support Andrii and his volunteer team, helping them bring innovative, lifesaving tools directly to the troops who need them most.

In the Kharkiv region, in the village of Vasyshcheve, there lives a person with a truly big heart — Tetiana Horiaieva.
For many years, she has been helping homeless animals:
feeding them, arranging sterilization, rescuing them from the streets, treating them, and finding them loving homes.
At the moment, 36 cats and 2 dogs are living under her care at home.
Every day, Tetiana feeds stray cats, whose number sometimes reaches 30 or more.
In total, this is over 65 animals that depend on her care.
Our foundation supports volunteers who devote their lives to helping animals.
Thanks to our donors, we were able to purchase and deliver food for the cats and dogs.
With the cold weather and frosts, proper nutrition is especially important for the animals to survive and stay strong.
Every bag of food means warmth, hope, and another day of life.

В Харківській області, в селі Васищеве, живе людина з великим серцем — Тетяна Горяєва.
Вже багато років вона допомагає безхатним тваринам:
годує, стерилізує, забирає з вулиць, лікує та прилаштовує у добрі руки.
Зараз під її опікою вдома — 36 котиків і 2 собачки.
Щодня Тетяна годує вуличних котів, кількість яких іноді сягає 30 і більше.
Загалом — понад 65 хвостиків, які залежать від її турботи.
Наш фонд підтримує волонтерів, які щодня роблять неможливе заради життя тварин.
Завдяки нашим донорам ми змогли придбати та передати корм для котиків і собачок.
Зараз морози, і тваринам особливо важливо добре харчуватися, щоб вижити.
Кожен мішок корму — це тепло, шанс і ще один день життя.

Our defenders often thank us, the volunteers, for not forgetting them — but how could we? We have no right to forget.

We continue to support families who find themselves in difficult life circumstances.
Recently, our team helped Kateryna from Mariupol and her two children. The family was forced to relocate and is currently experiencing severe financial hardship.
We provided them with essential clothing, household supplies, and food — everything needed to cover their basic needs and bring a sense of care and safety.
Kateryna and her children belong to a low-income family and still require ongoing support.

In September, our foundation greeted children at the start of the new school year.
The children of our Defenders, as well as those whose loved ones gave their lives for Ukraine.
They live in different cities — from west to east — yet each story touches the heart just as deeply.
At that time, we delivered school kits and small gifts of support so that the beginning of the school year could feel warmer, brighter, and filled with a sense of care. Even though we couldn’t meet in person, it was important to convey something simple yet sincere: they are not alone.
We are writing about this only now because we wanted to gather all the impressions, feedback, and photos that parents sent us. In every message — gratitude, strength, and the mature wisdom of these children.
We continue to support the families of service members and those who gave their lives defending Ukraine.
У вересні наш фонд привітав дітей із початком навчального року.
Дітей наших Захисників і Захисниць та ще дітей тих, хто віддав життя за Україну.
Вони живуть у різних містах - від заходу до сходу - але кожна історія торкається серця однаково глибоко.
Ми тоді передали шкільні набори та маленькі подарунки підтримки, щоб початок навчального року був для них теплішим, світлішим, з відчуттям турботи поруч. Хоч ми й не бачилися особисто, важливо було донести їм просте, але щире: вони не одні.

Today, #Ukraine celebrates 34 years of modern #independence — a hard-won milestone rooted in centuries of struggle and perseverance. In 1990, following the example of the Baltic states, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians formed a human chain across their country, demanding #freedom. A year later, more than 90% voted for independence from the Soviet Union. But independence was not the end—it was the beginning of a continued fight to defend it.
Over the past three decades, Ukrainians have stood up time and again:
✊ Through the Orange Revolution (2004)
🕯️ The Revolution of Dignity (2014)
🛡️ Eleven years of war with russia, including 3½ years of full-scale invasion
📦 Grassroots movements, including today’s creative, unyielding “cardboard revolution”
Across generations, they have passed the torch—children now standing where their parents once stood—defending #democracy, #sovereignty, and their right to choose a future aligned with #freedom and European #values. Despite centuries of repression—the Holodomor, Soviet purges, forced deportations, censorship, and even genocide—Ukrainians preserved their language, identity, and culture. Their story is one of #endurance and unbreakable #spirit.
But Ukraine does not stand alone. Around the world, millions have joined in #solidarity — flying Ukrainian flags, supporting humanitarian efforts, and refusing to accept aggression as the new normal. We at Ukraine Rescue Fund are deeply grateful to be part of this global #community and especially thankful to our #supporters, whose generosity sustains #civilians, volunteers, and #frontline communities through this fight.
Today, we celebrate Ukraine’s independence—and honor everyone, everywhere, who stands up for the values of freedom, dignity, and self-determination.

Turning Frustration Into Impact
trump's and putin's summit in #Alaska marked a watershed moment, underscoring a sobering reality: a global order anchored in American leadership is unraveling. This structure once guaranteed hashtag#sovereignty, territorial integrity, and self-determination for nations large and small.
putin’s war in Ukraine has tested that stability. Tens of thousands of civilians, including children, have been killed, entire towns erased, and millions displaced. His “root causes” reflect a refusal to accept an independent Ukraine. He claims territories his troops don’t control while erasing everything Ukrainian from those he does: abducting children and placing them in online marketplaces disguised as adoption systems, terrorizing civilians into russian passports and forced conscription, looting cultural treasures, bulldozing neighborhoods to cover up war crimes, and deporting entire communities to replace them with ethnic russians. This is not a border dispute; it’s an attempt to erase a nation. As historian Timothy Snyder warns, just as Hitler denied the legitimacy of Czechoslovakia and Poland, putin uses the same rhetoric — and methods — against Ukraine.
The shift in U.S. policy has deepened the danger. In The Atlantic, Anne Applebaum noted that halting weapons deliveries, easing sanctions, and softening deterrence have created a vacuum that emboldens putin. Into this void, civil society has stepped up. Ukraine’s war effort is powered not only by armed forces and state institutions, but also by a vast volunteer network — the backbone of the nation’s resilience, sustaining resistance, easing suffering, and turning resolve into action.
The Ukraine Rescue Fund (URF) was born from this spirit in the invasion’s first days. As a small California 501(c)(3) working with sister nonprofits in Prague and Kyiv, we’ve completed over 400 projects and delivered $800K in aid. Our focus: evacuations, medical supplies, non-lethal frontline support, direct help for displaced children and families, and care for abandoned animals. We run lean, source locally, and ensure help reaches where it’s needed most.
